The Refiner's Fire

I don't recall reviewing this chapter before, so here goes.

I've probably said this before, but I'm a massive fan of The Refiner's Fire, Time of Destiny and your other Harry Potter fanfiction. I've read RF and ToD at least twice before, but I've never read Now and Forever, so I'm re-reading everything before I do that. Now, on to the actual review part. I really like your OCs here (and am always very sad when the inevitable rolls 'round) and I'm very fond of the way you write Remus. I suppose this is just my meandering way of getting around to saying 'Great Chapter, good work'
I'm gonna stop rambling now, and get on with reading the rest.

Thanks for the nice review!  I'm so glad you like what I did with Remus, and my OCs as well!  They were all fun to write.  I got a bit annoyed with JKR for killing Remus and Tonks off and for not developing the relationship between Harry and Remus.  Therre were riches there I wish she'd mined, but it was fun for me to take care of the problem since she didn't deal with it the way i wanted her to!

After reading some fine fiction by Bob and Alix, I've been searching for something new to read. I remembered them recommending yours, and am so glad I've found you here.

I don't know if you'll see this, your story having been finished so long ago, but I'm very impressed with your voice and style. You pull the reader smoothly through the story without a hitch. Also, you seem to have a firm grasp on the dreaded 'show don't tell' thing. That's a hard one to conquer, and you do it admirably. Your dialogue is wonderful.

Thanks a lot!  It was my first fanfic in 15 years - I used to write Starman fanfiction back in the 1980s-90s.  And now I'm wirting original fiction - my fantasy novel, Star Sons - Dawn of the Two will be out soon!  I'll send out an announcement when it's available.

I'm interested in this story. It's longer than I normally read in most chapters, but it's well written so that makes up for it. Canon is still intact, which is a plus, as well as good characterization of original characters and canon characters.
I hope I like the rest of the story as much as did this first chapter!

I tried to grow the characters from where JKR had them at the end of OotP, and develop them in the way I thought she would do it.  After I wrote Refiners Fire and its sequel, Time of Destiny (which covers Harry's 7th year), HBP came out.  I was delighted to see how many things I "guessed right" - things JKR DID include in HBP that I'd written already in my two novels.  So my story stuck to canon pretty well! 

The chapters will be longer, especially in "Destiny," but that's what my readers wanted!  I hope you enjoy them!  Thanks for writing!

Is this Karina from my Yahoo group?  Why are you reading this here instead of there?  (just curious).  Glad you're enjoying it!  Yeah, I've forgotten some stuff about it too - I've had to re-read parts of this and ToD to work on the ficlet I'm currently writing, and I'm glad to see what fun reads they are!  Thanks for writing!

I'm starting to re-read this fic, it is so great that you have to, didnt do it sooner was that I hated you for killing Casey of, I still haven't forgiven you for that but the story is great and I have to read it again :)

Thanks! Have you read its sequel, "The Time of Destiny"?  Casey is gone but not forgotten - she is remembered several times in both fics.  And she got such a strong response from readers that I'm using her in my original novel, "Star Sons."  She's having a very good time there now.  ;->  I'm glad you're enjoying my stories!  AFTER you read Destiny, be sure to look for the ficlets also on this site, which fit into the epilogue of Destiny.  I'll be adding ficlets from time to time, all of which will fit into the epilogue of Destiny and fill in gaps I left in the time line there.  Thanks for writing!

I started with The Time Of Destiny, as that one had an update today. I'm fairly new to this website, so I have some catching up to do, and I quite soon discovered that I needed some background story - so then I started reading this. And I must say I am impressed. You say this is your first HP fic, but it surely isn't your first fic? I love it, and I am most pleased with the way he got to know this new family in the neighbourhood, and the boost it gives Harry's self confidence. It is so nice when someone take the time to get to know you on your own terms, without the stupid, malicious gossip getting in the way (belive me, I know). The Asher family seems great, I look forward to getting to know them better myself, and Remus' proposal to Harry about becoming guardian is nothing but sweet. Finally they both have family they love and trust. Last, but not least, I absolutely love artist!Harry. He is such a sensitive and perceptive soul, of course there is an artist hidden in there, and I'm delighted you bring him out into the light. Hope to see more of that one!

So I've finished the second story (what's finished of it) and now I'm reading the first. It's like watching star wars! except the new movies suck, and this most definitely doesn't. yay for harry getting a little respect, some food, some decent clothing, and most importantly, a little bit of payback. stupid freakin' dursleys.

Hi Abraxan. I like this first chapter, but it does seem that Harry is much much younger than 15 - he seemed to me to be very bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. His reactions to getting clothes and money seem a bit off since he has had the experience of buying clothes for school and having money in his name. Still a good chappie though.

I just started reading the story and I hope I'll be able to go on. I've been having a lot of trouble logging into the mature readings even though I am a grandmother of four. :)

Anyway, i loved this first chapter. I have found a great variety of outstanding writers in this hope and I am THRILLED... This may help to fill the void until the last installment of the series.

Your first story? really? I for one, am impressed! You can imagine my suprise with some of this stuff when you remember how amussing I found parking meters when I was takin' Harry to Diagon Alley the first time. Keep up the good work and don't let the muggles get yer down.
