I really should have written more reviews to this story. This is my second time through and I think the first time I was a timid reader so didn't want to review anything as I didn't think my opinion would mean anything to anyone.

Now reading this story from a post Deathly Hallows perspective, even less of it works in conjunction with Canon. None the less its just so damn good. The entire concept of the Refiners fire to give Harry the power to defeat Voldemort is brilliant.

The way you allow each character to grow and change in a very "traditional fantasy" way. Each character has its own journey to become close to a hero by the end.

Because JKR's real world is written for kids she could never do this. The fact that she did end up dealing with absolutes if Good and Evil meant she needed to keep her Harry whiter than white. He couldn't kill and he couldn't have this very adult view that sometimes in certain circumstances people dieing is right.

Sorry about the rambling, just thought I'd comment and say how much I love this story.

Wow, what a WONDERFUL review!  Yes, I worked very hard to "grow" each character, and to me, Harry *had* to kill in order to win the war.  And yes, since I'm writing for adults rather than kids, I could "go there" and turn Harry into the adult soldier he had to be in this war - and his friends, as well.  Some readers just don't understand why I developed the characters the way I did - but you got it!  Thanks a lot!  I'm glad you wrote!

And what have I been trying to get through to you readers, LOL???  Harry and Ginny = Good, Harry and anyone else = Bad!!  LOL!  JKR has been preparing Ginny and Harry for each other all along, through all the books.  She's never given any indication that Hermione thought of Harry as anything but a brother or best friend.  I may disagree with Hermione's taste in men, but hey, at least Hermione and Ginny won't be fighting over Harry!  LOL!   I was just going along with what JKR began, which is how both of my stories evolved.

I like the way you write the love scences. It is such a caring way. I really never liked the step by way some writers do. Maybe thats why I love to old movies. I love the way you set the scene up and leave the rest to the readers mind.

Oh Neville! *cries a bit* And now we've officially rounded off my list of favorite characters. Did you see him in the new movie? So...adorable!

I spent 26 years in the military, a period that stretched from Viet Nam to th Persian Gulf and beyond. There is an old saying that is as true today as it was whwn it was first spoken, War is Hell. It is a very personal experience and the reception that 'soldiers' receive is very similar to what you've described; some praise you and some revile you an neither group understand that you did what needed to be done at the time and you pray every day that noone ele will ever have to go through waht you did. Mostly you'd like to forget, but you never can. You did a masterful job with Harry's feelings.
